Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These shifts can affect energy levels, behavior, judgment, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. Without proper treatment, bipolar disorder can significantly impact relationships, work, and quality of life.

Dr. Marc Heiser specializes in diagnosing and managing bipolar disorder with a comprehensive, compassionate approach that focuses on long-term stability and well-being.

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder involves two distinct sets of symptoms:

Manic or Hypomanic Episode Symptoms:

  • Elevated or irritable mood
  • Increased energy and reduced need for sleep
  • Rapid speech and racing thoughts
  • Impulsive or risky behaviors
  • Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity

Depressive Episode Symptoms:

  • Persistent sadness or hopelessness
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide

These episodes can vary in frequency and intensity, with some individuals experiencing periods of emotional stability in between.
